Ambroz Family Foster Youth Scholarship



The purpose of the scholarship is to support all expenses related to attendance. Scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, books and other related expenses (laptop, transportation, etc). Student will be 17-24 years old, and have been in foster care at some point.

Anthony & Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation Guardian Scholars Scholarship - Fall

Foster Youth

This scholarship was created by the Anthony & Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation and is available to any LACC student who is a member in good standing of the Guardian Scholars Program for current or former foster youth with  financial need as evidenced by his/her FAFSA EFC form or by his/her Financial Aid summary from the student portal.
 

Minimum requirements:

  1. Must be a full-time student (9 units minimum) at LACC and between the ages of 16 to 24

  2. Must have completed a minimum of 6 semester units toward their educational goal (vocational certificate, AA degree or transfer) at LACC or comparable institution

  3. Must be a member in good standing of the LACC Guardian Scholars Program

  4. Must have at least 2.0 GPA

  5. Demonstrate financial need by attaching either the FAFSA EFC form or LACC Financial Aid summary

  6. Must meet with an academic advisor and be recommended by the GSP Program Director and Assistant Program Director

Community Justice Foundation Veterans Scholarship - Fall



The purpose of this award is to provide support to any veteran student who can demonstrate financial need

Minimum requirements:
 
1.     Must be a CA Resident
2.     Must have at least 2.0 GPA
3.     Must be a veteran student (9 units minimum for spring)
4.     Must have verified veteran status. Application must include a copy of the DD214 member #4 with Honorable Discharge status
5.     Degree-applicable units may not exceed 75
 
An unofficial transcript, a copy of the current registration, and a copy of the Financial Aid award letter must be uploaded to the application

Ella Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship for Nursing Students



The Ella Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship in Nursing will be available to at least three (3) undergraduate LACC students per academic year, subject to financial needs. The student(s) will be chosen based on their desire and motivation to study for a degree in Nursing. The student must have a high-school diploma or GED and they must be eligible for this scholarship according to the stipulations put forward in the scholarship proposal. Our scholarship will stick to this student until graduation as long as they abide by the Scholarship gudelines.

The Ella Fitzgerald Scholar must be eligible for in-state tuition and be eligible to attend public college.
The Ella Fitzgerald Scholar must have and maintain a 3.0 ("B") or better average GPA. If the scholar fails to maintain this average each semester, they will be placed on academic probatiomn for one semester. If the Scholar fails to improve their GPA, they will be dropped from the program. Other academic/social criteria is to be mutually agreed between us. Ideally, we would like the Ella Fitzgerald Scholar do do some work with an under-served population, either as a volunteer or in a paid position, for at least a few hours every month.

Must be in the LACC Nursing Program - 2nd & 3rd Semester
3.0 GPA or higher

This scholarship is to support a continuing student in meeting his/her college expenses.

Golden Globes Foundation Journalism Fellowships



The Golden Globes Foundation Fellowships will be awarded to journalism transfer students, or students who are pursuing a degree/certificate in journalism or photojournalism. The program seeks to identify individuals who are underrepresented in the field of journalism and to support their efforts in order to increase their participation in newsrooms. The goal is to assist promising students from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate financial need and face economic challenges, as well as those who might be at risk of leaving the program due to economic barriers; or international students who bring a different point of view and voice to their work. The program will also engage high school journalism students from Los Angeles Unified School District and from the Dual Enrollment Program who aspire to careers in journalism.

The Golden Globes Foundation Fellowships will help students cover tuition, books, and vocational supplies or other critical needs. The LACC Foundation will adhere to the following guidelines to distribute the Golden Globes Foundation Fellowships: Golden Globes Foundation Fellowship Disbursement

Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellowship - Cinema/TV FALL



The purpose of this fellowship is to provide support to LACC cinema and TV students who can demonstrate financial need. The award will be granted based on need and qualifications and will be awarded for at the end of the spring semester.

Minimum requirements:
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units in LACC Cinema/TV Department
  • Candidates must have completed a minimum of 12 units of LACC Cinema/TV program prerequisites
  • Candidates must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5
  • Candidates will have demonstrated financial need based on current or projected income as compared to expenses during their enrollment
  • Candidates must submit a one-page, typed essay that will describe their goals for their cinema or television career, what led them to choose cinema or television as their major, and their financial needs
  • Candidates must include their LACC Student I. D. and Social Security* numbers (*except international students) to complete the application
  • Candidates must include a copy of their unofficial transcripts, current registration, and two current letters of recommendation from LACC Cinema/TV faculty members with their applications
  • Student must submit either the Expected Family Contribution Form from the FAFSA or the award letter from LACC’s Financial Aid Office
Candidate applications will be reviewed by the LACCF Scholarship Committee and the finalists reviewed by the Foundation Executive Director before the final selection is made

Theatre Academy

The scholarship award must be given to a Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy major. Financial need must be a major condition of the scholarship or award with the requirement that it be for outstanding work and for sincere application of effort.

The purpose of this is scholarship is to provide support for tuition, fees and cost of books for one or two Mexican-American student(s) or those students who support Mexican-American students.

Margaret Tew Christy Scholarship - Fall



This scholarship shall be awarded to LACC students who meet the following criteria:

- Must be majoring in one of the Business Administration disciplines and college transcript must show satisfactory progress in completing the requirements of that major.
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA
- Must have completed at least 25 units at LACC within the last three (3) years
- Must have completed and/or be presently enrolled in at least 12 units of Business Administration Department courses
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units at LACC
- Must demostrate financial need
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Marta K. Ruano & Sterling C. Franklin Endowed Scholarship - Fall



The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Marta K. Ruano for her rise from poverty in Guatemala and success in America and to provide a scholarship award each year to one or more Guardian Scholar students at LACC. Preference will be given to a woman student, a student of Guatemalan heritage, or to a student who supports women students or students of Guatemalan heritage.

Martha K. and George H. Manos Scholarship



The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to:
(a) incoming freshmen and/or continuing students at LACC that have graduated from either John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, George Schurr High School in Montebello, CA or Montebello High School in Montebello, CA, and
b) are first generation U. S. citizens of two immigrant parents.
In addition, a student's financial need may be considered.

Mennes Theatre Academy Scholarship - Fall

Purpose:  The purpose of this fellowship is to provide support to LACC Theatre Academy students who can demonstrate financial need. The award will be granted based on need and talent in any one or more of the theater disciplines and will be awarded for the fall semester. 

Criteria to Apply:

  1. Candidates must be approved student members of the LACC Theatre Academy
  2. Candidates must demonstrate financial need:
    1. Candidates must submit either the Expected Family Contribution Form from the FAFSA or the award letter from LACC’s Financial Aid Office
  3. Candidates must submit a one-page, typed essay describing their financial need, career goals and what led them to choose theatre as their major
  4. Candidates must include their LACC Student ID and Social Security numbers to complete the application
  5. Candidates must include a copy of their unofficial transcripts and current registration

Requirements: Students must secure a Theatre Academy faculty endorsement and a signature from the Department Chair Signature. In addition, candidates must submit a color passport-sized photo and signed statement, “My photograph may be used for reproduction.”

Moon Collins Ealy Vega Scholarship - Fall

Purpose: To assist students in the Social Science Department complete their educations.

Criteria for Applying:

  1. Minimum 2.5 GPA
  2. Full-time student at LACC (minimum 12 units)
  3. Must be a Social Science major
  4. Completion of not more than 90 units
  5. Transferring to a four-year university or college
  6. Faculty & community letters of recommendation

Requirements: An unofficial transcript and a copy of current registration must be attached to this application, plus all entries must be completed. Candidates must submit a one-page, typed self-profile (approximately 500 words) that includes educational and career goals and attach a color passport-sized photo and signed statement, “My photograph may be used for reproduction”.  Candidates must also provide letters of reference from two (2) faculty members and one (1) letter of recommendation from a community organization.

Nick Beck Journalism Scholarship - Fall



This scholarship is intended for a staff member or editor of the LACC Collegian. The staff member or editor must be an LACC Student who intends to pursue a career in Journalism.

Minimum requirements:
 
1.     Must have at least 3.0 GPA
2.     Must be enrolled in 6 units minimum at LACC
3.     Journalism Major
4.     One letter of recommendation from Journalism Faculty
5.     Essay Required - (350 words minimum) about the responsibility of a Journalist.

Osher Scholars - Fall Only

Purpose: Bernard Osher created this award to be distributed through the California Community Colleges Foundation to students with the greatest financial need. Priority is given to students with the greatest need, as determined by the individual community colleges. As long as an applicant is making satisfactory progress toward a degree, the applicant’s academic performance will not be considered by the selection committee. The award should be used to cover lab fees, books, uniforms, tools, and other equipment required by a student’s course of study.

Criteria for Applying: 

  • Students must have completed 24 or more degree-applicable semester units (or the equivalent) at the time of the initial scholarship disbursement
  • Student must be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more units) during all terms in which the award remains active
  • Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Student must have received a CCC Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver
  • LACCF may choose to prorate based on units per term. Suggested prorated award amounts follow:
    • Full-time (12 or more units per term) = up to $725 per semester, $1,450 per year ($4,350 lifetime total)
    • Three-quarter-time (9-11.99 units per term) = up to $543.75 per semester (or $1,087.50 per year)
    • Half-time (6 – 8.99 units per term) = up to $362.50 per semester (or $725 per year)
  • Applicants must attach:
    • A copy of their unofficial transcript and a copy of the class schedule approved by the Admissions & Records Office.
    • A copy of their Board of Governors Fee Waiver
    • Student must submit either the Expected Family Contribution Form from the FAFSA or the award letter from LACC’s Financial Aid Office

President Mary P. Gallagher Endowment Fund - President's Scholars - Fall



The President Mary P. Gallagher Endowment fund provide awards for President's Scholars students at Los Angeles City College. The purpose of this award is to encourage high achieving students who graduate from feeder high schools near Los Angeles City College to attend LACC full-time in order for them to complete two years of LACC college courses so they can transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and for them to be debt-free after their two years at LACC by providing them with tuition, financial support, and other benefits. Also, being selected to be a president's scholar is a high honor for a high school graduate who enrolls at LACC as a first-year student.

Requirements:

3.75 GPA (incoming) then maintain a 3.5 GPA

The Carmichael Lewis Music Scholarship was established from the proceeds from the Carmichael Lewis Trust to provide scholarship funds to music students to enable them to continue their education.

Purpose: This scholarship was funded by an endowment from the Wells Fargo Foundation to provide support for exceptional students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and involvement in the school and/or community.
Criteria for Applying:

  1. Must be a current full-time student at LACC (12 units minimum)
  2. Must have completed a minimum of 24 degree-applicable units and no more than 75 degree-applicable units at LACC
  3. Must have a GPA of 3.5 or above
  4. Must be a student who is preparing to transfer to a four-year college or university
  5. Must be CA Resident
  6. Demonstrated leadership and involvement in the school and/or community
  7. Student must have received a CCC Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver
  8. LACCF may choose to prorate based on units per term. Suggested prorated award amounts follow:
    • Full-time (12 or more units per term) = up to $725 per semester, $1,450 per year ($4,350 lifetime total)
    • Three-quarter-time (9-11.99 units per term) = up to $543.75 per semester (or $1,087.50 per year)
    • Half-time (6 – 8.99 units per term) = up to $362.50 per semester (or $725 per year)
